Question About Hearing Test

Tuesday December 2, 2003
Question About Hearing Test - I went to an audiologist yesterday. She ran some tests on me. They included putting me in a sound booth and speaking words in each ear (with no background noise) and making tones in my ears. The test results showed me as being in the low range of normal hearing. She also put something in my ear to test it (I am not sure what it does). She said that my right ear-drum shows no reflex (I do not know what that means and she could not adequately explain it to me). So she said she doesn't understand why I am having problems, that my peripheral hearing is normal. She said that I may have a problem with the nerve going to my brain or with the way my brain interprets speech (?), but that while she could send me to extensive testing to see if this is the case, there is nothing they can do about it. Can anyone explain this to me better? Is there some other doctor I should go to or some other test. I don't understand how my hearing could be normal, when I am having so much difficulty understanding what people are saying.
