Oral Deaf Not Welcome in Deaf Colleges?

Sunday December 14, 2003
Oral Deaf Not Welcome in Deaf Colleges? - While reviewing an article today, I was struck by the comments of one young oral deaf person: That person commented that after growing up oral and not feeling accepted by the deaf community, he feared a repeat of the experience at the deaf college he was accepted to, and so he decided not to go to the deaf college and attended a hearing college instead. That got me to wondering if Gallaudet, NTID, and CSUN are missing out on good oral deaf students who think that they will not be welcome in the deaf student environment at those colleges. There is a reason that Gallaudet has its "New Signers" program, to help oral deaf students adjust. What do you think?
