Just discovered hearing loss

Tuesday January 13, 2004
Greetings. I have tinnitis. I went to see an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist and she put me through some hearing tests. I was told I am deaf to high pitch sounds. That explains why everone else but me knew when my watch alarm was going off. I'm not really sure when this all began. The specialist thinks I should get hearing aids. I'm not thinking it is necessary, and hoping for some miraculous recovery and that this horrible ringing would stop. Shouldn't I be getting further testing or something to find the cause? What tests?

I have had tinnitus for more than 14 years and I know how difficult it can be to live with. I use a fan at night to help me sleep. Also, keeping music on in the house helps as a distraction. The M.D. recommended tuning the radio to an A.M. station. Good luck.
