Washington Post Article on Captioning Settlement

From Jamie Berke, About.com GuideApril 3, 2004

Follow me on:

Today's (Saturday April 3) Washington Post Metro section has an article on the recent proposed settlement for movie theaters. Bottom line is, rear window captioning has won...all of the theaters involved in the settlement are getting rear window captioning. The problem with this is that, as the article pointed out, rear window captioning does not work for everyone. For instance, people with bifocals have trouble with rear window captioning and that could be a problem for me in the future! I have been told by my own doctor that in a few more years I will need bifocals. I have gotten used to rear window captioning but admit that I do find it a pain in the neck to adjust the equipment. My younger deaf child simply refuses to use the equipment. I can not download my e-mail, so if you have any comments on this blog post or the article, please post to the About Deafness forum.
