Deafness Makes Hunt for Job Hard?

A co-worker brought this article to my attention today, after spotting a mention of it on the website idealist.org: Deafness Makes Hunt for Job Hard

Nothing new here, but the one thing I found disturbing was the fact that the deaf man in the article went for an interview without an interpreter, and got sent away without an interview. Haven't some hearing people ever heard of a very reliable old-fashioned technology called pen and paper?
