Sign Language Stuttering?

Saturday November 6, 2004
Signmom98 writes: Has anyone heard of stuttering in sign language? Just this summer my son has started to stutter or hesitate for maybe 20 seconds before signing. It's only with the first word of the sentence and then his signing flows fine.

I’m quite surprise that you have no comment since Nov 2004. Haven’t you heard anything at all??
I’m Deaf myself, and I’ve seen very few Deaf who would sign stuttering when trying to talk in ASL. I’ve wondered if there is a such thing that sign stutter does exist just like speech stutter.

I want to learn more about this area too because I married a man who was hearing and became deaf when he was 33. I have no formal diagnosis but he seems to stutter in ASL too. Also he has trouble finding signs or make wrong signs or use wrong handshape even though I told him over and over the correct signs. He had brain tumor so I dont know if that is why he stutters in ASL when he became deaf and learn ASL. I am still trying to understand what happened to him. Or is he also aphasic in sign language too? I wish I can find someone who can evaluate him as this is very unique!
