Optimist Club Encourages Deaf Children
Saturday January 29, 2005
Today I had the privilege of watching nine deaf and hard of hearing children and teens compete in the district Optimist Club Communications Contest for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. The objective of this competition is to encourage deaf/hoh children and teens to speak publicly, build their confidence, and promote an interest in writing. While not all Optimist Clubs participate in this activity, according to the Optimist website around 300 clubs are involved. The winners were Wade Green (on the right) and Allie Shelby (on the left).
A special note to a certain boy with ADHD...don't give up!
