Ashamed?

Friday April 15, 2005
I am so used to being deaf that it is easy for me to forget that for hard of hearing people, having a hearing loss can make them ashamed or embarrassed:

Janessa514 writes: I am half deaf in both ears and have been since I was three. At the age of 10 my parents gave me hearing aids and I've worn hearing aids ever since. I function pretty close to normal with them and most people don't even know I have hearing loss as severe as I do.

My problem is that I've been hiding my hearing loss. I don't let anyone see my hearing aids and I wear my hair down all the time. I'll still wear my hair down in 90 degree weather. I have gone through 4 years of college with everyone in my major NEVER finding out...
