Deaf and Dumb in 2005?

The National Association of the Deaf has objected to the inclusion of the term "deaf and dumb" in a letter to the editor in People magazine. However, as forum member deafgrrrl points out in the forum thread "Still Use Deaf-Mute-Dumb,", it was not People's language but the language of the letter writer.

I don`t like hear about deaf and dumb. I like hear a deaf and smart then hearing and dumb.
