Fighting Over Hearing Aids

Sunday June 26, 2005
My son is 7 yr. He has a mild/moderate bilateral hearing loss. He was diagnosed at 1.5. He was fitted with hearing aids at 2. Right now I am having trouble trying to get him to wear his hearing aids. At school he takes them out with one excuse or another. eg. dead battery, making funny noise, volume is too loud. I have given his teacher extra batteries, his hearing aid has a volume control, and we have taken it in for service several times and nothing has been found wrong. Now that summer is starting it will be even worse. He does not want to wear them. He thinks that he can hear fine without them. I have tried to explain to him that he does not hear all sounds. Does anyone have any suggesstions or ideas that will help me get him to wear them more?
