Easy Way for Deaf Community to Help Katrina Victims

Monday September 5, 2005
Many people in the deaf community do not have a lot of money to donate to Katrina relief but want to help. Going to the website for the American Red Cross, I just stumbled across a really easy way deaf people of all income levels can help. You can donate small change (I just did) via Coinstar machines at grocery stores in your area. Not all Coinstar machines are able to handle Katrina donations, so use this link to find the ones near you. Under "Select a product" select "Non-Profit Organizations". Enter the city, state, zipcode and distance. Click the "Locate" button and the results will show the grocery stores nearest you (in the Metropolitan Washington, DC area this is usually Giant) that have Coinstar machines that can accept small change donations for the American Red Cross. The machines print out receipts for tax deductions.
