"A Summer to Remember"

There is this movie that is not recent at all, but i just recently saw it. It's called "A Summer to Remember". I was wondering if i was the only person who thought a certain way about this movie. I thought his family was being a little impatient with the kid not being able to talk. I also thought it strange that the stepfather was the one person who most desperately wanted the boy to talk! He could've learned to sign better, couldnt he? I just thought of the whole movie in such a way. Is there anyone else out there who has an opinion about this movie???
