Medical Tour for a Cochlear Implant?
Thursday August 31, 2006
Medical tourism is the term for going out of the country to get medical procedures done more cheaply elsewhere. After the procedure, people tour the area. More people are doing it to save on health costs, and even some companies are sending people out of the country for common medical procedures. Could we see Americans going to India, the Philippines, or South Africa for cochlear implants? Or maybe that is already happening?

Comments
I should have seen this earlier, maybe a comment that is almost a year delayed is somewhat acceptable.
I am from the Philippines and I have a daughter with profound deafness. I have known of a group of doctors in medical mission doing free surgery here in our province, but cochlear implant is not included.
I would be very thankful if cochlear implant would be part of their tasks.
This very expensive operation is almost impossible here in the Philippine due to absence of insurance. Very few afforded.
I wish I would be informed in case medical missionaries would visit for cochlear implantation.
Thank you.
