Carl Dupree Day?
Thursday November 9, 2006
Today (Nov 9) is the sixteenth anniversary of the death of Carl Dupree, who was a student at Gallaudet University. Dupree died in part because campus security police were not able to communicate with him in sign language. As time goes on, his death is likely to be forgotten -- unless the deaf community turns today into an annual commemorative day just like we have Dr. Martin Luther King Day.
Bloggers posted today on the death of Carl Dupree in the early '90s. Some of them were actual eyewitnesses to his death and describe the scene in graphic detail.
