Who Will Get the Ultimate Deaf Temp Job?

Thursday December 7, 2006
Word is spreading (via blogs and the media) that the three finalists for the ultimate deaf temporary position, President of Gallaudet University, are:
  • Robert Davila
  • William Marshall
  • Stephen Weiner
Two (Marshall and Weiner) are "insiders" working at Gallaudet while one, Davila, is an "outsider." Already, the deaf blog community is debating who would be the best choice. Whomever is chosen will not be eligible for the permanent job of President, and this factor will probably play a role in the selection.

Both insiders and outsiders have their advantages. The outsider is seen as the person who brings a fresh blood perspective, while the insider has the advantage of already knowing how things operate. In my personal opinion, an insider would be a better choice because this crucial interim period is not a time to "rock the boat." At the same time, a new president, albeit a temporary one, must deal with the issues facing Gallaudet, laying a foundation for the permanent president.

Gallaudet will announce who the new interim president will be, on Sunday, December 10.

Its amazing to see that after all the months of ruckus of unfair proccess, screams of lack of people of color, and audisum cries that even the new deafhood chocked IPSAC restarted the selection process shockingly came up with an almost identical mix of final three candidates. It makes me wonder if the deafhood charisma has really gone to the dogs this time.

None of these candidates possess the skilsts nor insight that Dr. Fernandes has. You are all settling for less with any of these candidates and I believe it will only get worse.
