In the News: Speak Up, Professor

Friday May 25, 2007
The Record.com reports that more college students are experiencing hearing loss. As would be expected, this increase in hearing loss among such a young population is due in part to the use of portable stereos. (Side note: As ipods and the like have gained popularity, I have been amused at the sight of all those hearing people with ear buds. Doesn't seem that different from the hearing aids of long ago, does it?)

LOL Yes, it sure does….thanks for the chuckle. :) I used to wear the body worn aids when I was little (BTE wearer now), but your comment about the ear buds sure was right on. :)

Same here, Nancy. I had to laugh a bit. I also wore the body aids. No more. I had to put up with the stares from the younger kids. Even then today, you don’t know if they’re wearing body aids or listening to music til you look closely.

Ah, how many jokes can one come up about those hearing aids from long ago? Do they still work even though they’re at least 30 years old?
