Deaf Awareness Week

Tuesday September 4, 2007
If it is September, that means...Deaf Awareness Week. Deaf Awareness Week is about more than just awareness of sign language. It is about the full spectrum of the deaf experience, from hearing aids to cochlear implants to captioning to deaf culture.

This year (2007) at the World Federation of the Deaf many of the participants have agreed to designate the September “Deaf awareness week/month” as the way to promote awareness of the language and culture genocide of Deaf people in USA and all over the world and to promote unity to fight against that. Sept 28/29 various cities around the globe are encourage to plan a march with black T-shirts and follow that with a celebration of the many gifts Deaf people and Sign languages have bestowed the earth.

i am total deaf in on ear and almost in other ear. i use a relay phone. it is amazing how many people will not accept these calls or ask me to have some one else call them for me, dr, schools, stores. it is very flustrating as this is my way to comunicate. there needs to be more awareness about relay calls so folks know what this is all about.also i hae problems on places where it is take a number and wait to be calle, well i do not hear when i am called there needs to be presure put on places who use this to post the number up some how. seems to not matter when i mention this to these places.
