National Association of the Deaf Reacts to AG Bell Letter

Thursday February 7, 2008
Today the National Association of the Deaf reacted publicly to the AG Bell letter to Pepsi. The president of the NAD wrote a letter to the AG Bell president, and also did an ASL video. The NAD letter does not mince words, and clearly demonstrates how upset the deaf community has been by the AG Bell letter. Click here to read the NAD letter or watch the ASL video.

If they want to point their guns at AGBell thats fine but they might want to be lining their guns around Gallaudet to protect their school as it’s in a major mess now.

What is also deplorable is the fact that PepsiCo, in it’s uneducated state, chose to take the advice of only ONE opinionated viewpoint. If they were truly of “size and stature” they would have done their homework to make an educated decision. I’m driven to write a letter of complaint to Pepsi. How terrible they were so small-minded to listen to one viewpoint!!

Excuse me, Tracie?

NAD is diversity and is way more inclusive than AGBell is.

I’m a CI user and I found AGBell’s letter to be offensive and looking down on ASL as it has always been for years.

It was based on a DEAF JOKE told by the Deaf people in the Deaf Community for over 40 years and they asked NAD to make sure things went smoothly!

NAD welcomes EVERYONE and treats everyone as EQUALS with RESPECT.

Can’t say the same for AGBell…

Oh by the way, Tracie…. one of the deaf characters wears a CI and does speak orally.

How is that “so small-minded”? :D
