Love Is Never Silent Out on DVD Soon

Saturday February 23, 2008
Thanks to Jack Jason, Marlee Matlin's business partner, for providing this bit of good news in his comment on the "Marlee Matlin Back in the Spotlight" blog post:

Hey it's Jack Jason, Marlee Matlin's business partner. Just wanted to let you know that "Love Is Never Silent" will be coming out just after the initial airing of "Sweet Nothing In My Ear" on DVD. Also, the date for the airing of "Sweet Nothing In My Ear" will be sometime in late April; either April 20 or April 27.

This makes me very happy. Not only do we get to see "Sweet Nothing in My Ear" on television soon, we also get to buy that deaf classic, "Love is Never Silent." (I recommend the book it is based on, "In This Sign," highly. It is a good fictional read.) Now if only "And Your Name is Jonah" would also come out on DVD for us to buy, I would be deliriously happy...

Jamie,

A couple more things as your blog goes everywhere! Could you pass along to your readers that “Sweet Nothing In My Ear” will be airing in late April. There have been several emails going around that have stated it will air April 1st. Those emails are incorrect. When an airdate is announced (it’s going to air either going to be April 20th or April 27th), I’ll let you know. In the meantime, your readers can check their local listings.

People have also been wondering aloud on line how to vote on “Dancing With The Stars.” There are three ways to vote – by phone, by text and by the Internet. All of the information is listen on the screen as each dancer is waiting for their scores. Let’s hope all your readers vote for Marlee!

And please visit Marlee’s MySpace page at MySpace.com/marleematlinrealdeal. She’d love to hear from all of you.

Best,
Jack Jason

Hi Jack,

Don’t know if this will get to you, or Marlee, but wanted her to know that Carole and I, thought to be professional ballroom dancers by some, will be pulling for her tonight — and throughout her run. It’s a been a long time since Capitol Hill with Emma, Los Angeles with the Premiere, etc. My best to you and her,

I’m following up on the availability of Love is Never Silent that was posted on your site in March. I have not been able to find any place that is selling this 1985 Hallmark production.

I have purchased “Sweet Nothing In My Ear” at my local Hallmark store, but I can’t find “Love is never silent” anywhere. I even looked on the Hallmark web site. Anyone know anything more about it becoming available on DVD?

It is now August 2008, and I cannot find Love is Never Silent on DVD for love or money. I was hoping to give this as a Christmas present but I’m starting to lose hope – Jamie, can you update us on the availability of this DVD?

Well…. I just spent a long and fruitless 2 hours getting the runaround on the phone. (Plus navigating phone menus though the relay sucks!)

Here’s a short breakdown of what I found out:

Hallmark has no idea about the release of the movie. All they know is that it’s not out yet. They said that Hallmark Channel is responsible for that.

Hallmark Channel says this is a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie. They said that means CBS is responsible for putting it out.

CBS says they have nothing to do with this movie and that they show NBC as the ones who are responsible for this movie.

NBC does not have any contact phone numbers for finding out about the movie. So, I sent them an email.

So, based on all the above information I think it’s safe to say that the movie is not out yet. *grin*

Love is Never Silent is not a Hallmark film. However, I believe it was on Hallmark in 2003.

I have been looking for this movie on DVD for a very long time. I have called Hallmark and CBS in 2000 and they both did not know anything about it. What I don’t understand: why is it so difficult to find this movie? Why are they making it so hard to put it out on DVD? There is no clear logic to why they (whoever it is) are keeping this movie from the public. Could it all have been a rumor that THEY were supposed to put it out in August?

I, too, have been looking for this movie for years, without luck. It was a Hallmark Hall of Fame production – I am a teacher of the hearing impaired, and when I was in college, my mom videotaped it off the TV for me. Unfortunately, the vhs is damaged and unwatchable. I would love for my 4 kids to see this movie, and am confused as to why it has not been relased.

(13) Vollmer says:

When I saw this movie “Love is Never Silence” back in ‘85 before having my children, I vowed myself that I would not be dependent on my hearing children for any excuses. I have been trying to track this movie down ever since. I teach ASL for the last 18 years…my copy of the movie has been overused over the years..however am still able to use it….however the technology keeps changing and I am everly desparate to get a copy of this beautiful movie. Because mine will not last very long. It is a wonderful Education Material to be shown for ALL Students and our deaf community……This movie is so greatly valuable and it is a great shame that it is not available for everyone purposes. I too, contacted the Hallmark’s agency I was told that is was locked in the vault….When I saw this information that it was coming out…what a sad thing that it still not released. What a great SHAME!!!!! 18 years later and still going, I have grown to be very independent without having to be depending on my children for that they are hearing.

I don’t understand why it was announced on CBS that the movie would be available in June 2008 and yet no one knows why it’s still not available. I ordered a copy from Ornaments 4 Less during the summer but was told due to some problem with Hallmark that the DVD won’t be available until November. I’m still waiting to see any there will be any new developments on this.
But I still don’t understand why this announcement was allowed to be made during the airing of Sweet Nothing if there were issues with ownership and distribution rights. Not cool!

I’ve just been told it’ll finally be available on December 15. But considering the long, winding path this film is taking to DVD, don’t quote me on this.

(17) Marisa says:

Like everyone else, I have searched hi and lo for this movie (Love Is Never Silent) for many years. We purchased a VCR in Dec 1986 when it aired just to tape the movie. My copy is wearing out and I am afraid will ruin soon. I accidently purchased one in a format from Great Britain that cannot be watched on USA VCRs. I never get tired of watching it! When I researched about 2 or 3 years ago, I was told that even though it was a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie, Hallmark did not own the rights to it. So that is why we can’t find it with Hallmark. I look forward to its availability someday!

I was told by Hallmark “We now have the master of LINS from Warner Bros and are making duplicates. We plan to ship to the Hallmark retailers who order it in December. Contact your Hallmark store to make sure they order you a copy. They will be available for shipping mid-December.”

I still have not seen it available on-line from Hallmark yet. And have not seen it in the stores. I just called and the Hallmark store I talked with said it might even be mid-January.

After much checking, I’m only seeing it on ornaments4less and ebay. It’s not listed on the Hallmark Hall of Fame site, neither is it on Amazon. The Hallmark site does show “Sweet Nothing in my Ear” as for sale.

If anyone does order it from them, please post your findings here after receiving the order.
