Being Sued, Difficulty Getting CART Services

Thursday May 29, 2008
Kbfromlb has posted on the forum about his/her difficulty in obtaining CART services to assist in a court case. At the same time, kbfromlb was warned by a mediator that he/she would be in contempt of court if he/she tried to postpone a session because there was no CART services. The situation is actually more complicated than that. Read more on the forum.

Well, I’m surprised because I thought that the Court was supposed provide and pay for the services. It looks like I would be in contempt, because it would be very unfair to be at court sessions without reasonable accommodations.

I would sue the Court or the Mediator for violating ADA. Does the Judge know that the Mediator said that you would be in contempt? I’m sure that a Judge that knows about ADA would not ever let anyone deny accommodations.

Recently, I went to a 3-day workshop and had an oral interpreter to translate from English to Spanish because I don’t know how to read lips in English. Maybe having an oral interpreter or “transliterator” can help until CART services can be found.
