Tennis Balls Not Just for Play

Wednesday September 3, 2008
I've heard of tennis balls being used to reduce background noise on chairs before, but this picture in the Daily News is the first time I have seen a picture of it. Interesting...and I wonder how strongly those balls are "affixed" to the chairs. It must be tempting for playful students, having all those balls around.

Joking aside, are there any other ways to reduce background noise in classrooms besides tennis balls on chairs?

Yes, there are lots of other ways to reduce noise in the classroom. Heating and air conditioning units can have cabinets placed around them to reduce the noise. Acoustic panels, heavy curtains, carpeting are other noise reducers. Other considerations, such as using classrooms away from music centers and lockers also help.
