Beam Up My Ears, Scotty

Thursday November 20, 2008
New Scientist has a report that scientists have discovered that infrared light can stimulate the neurons that send sound signals to the brain, the same way that hair cells in the ear stimulate neurons when sound is heard. This could result in vastly improved cochlear implants in the future, because then there could be more sources of stimulation of neurons compared to the limited number of electrodes in cochlear implants today. Pretty exciting news!

How can I help my daughter and son who have struggled with deafness all their life. My son does not have employment and no insurance. He is 42 years old. How do you find somene that will help?? He needs a hearing aid badly. All he gets is the run-around. People say they will call him back..never do. Is there someone that helps people like my son??? thank you.

I am 68 and cannot get hearing aids either. Medicare will not pay one penny for them. If you can get Medicaid maybe that will help. If you find a way to get help, please let me know. I have been trying for years and cannot hear.
Good luck.
