About.com Golf Guide: Playing Golf May Cause Hearing Loss

Wednesday January 7, 2009
Brent Kelley, About.com's guide to Golf, has an article, "Golf Drivers and Hearing Loss," about a study that shows thin-faced, titanium golf drivers may cause hearing loss in golfers who are already susceptible to hearing loss. Brent's summary of the article:
A group of British doctors is looking into the possibility that the noise produced by the impact of golf driver on golf ball may be loud enough to cause hearing loss in those golfers susceptible to hearing damage. Their study is not yet complete, but they do recommend such golfers consider wearing earplugs when playing.
This has me wondering if there are any other sports or recreational activities that increase the risk for hearing loss?
