Potty Training and Baby Sign Language

The folks behind the Baby Signs program are promoting the use of baby sign language to encourage earlier potty training, which both saves money for parents and reduces the risks of problems for toddlers.

I've never had to potty train a baby, so I really don't have any idea of how challenging it can be. Are you a hearing parent who used baby sign language to potty train your kids? How old were your kids when they got potty trained, and do you credit sign language for success in potty training at an earlier age?

Hi,
I am a big fan of teaching hearing children sign language. One of my friends taught her child and my son ended up picking it up just by spending time with them. I got on board and started teaching him ‘manners’ words which he couldn’t say yet and to this day at the age of nearly 3 is still uses his signs to say ‘please, thank-you, sorry’ as well as ’sharing’.
I hadn’t thought of using sign language to teach potty training but love the idea of this.

Early childhood potty training is necessary to overall child development. The sooner the child learns it the more cognitive functions they can accumulate!
