The News-Herald has an article about a deaf woman who is working to improve things in her city. From what she describes, it sounds like an extremely deaf-unfriendly city. Just a few of the things she states:
- Companies in the city won't hire deaf people, who are allegedly limited to working for deaf companies.
- Instead of vocational rehabilitation services providing interpreters for job interviews (there is no mention of the availability of VR services in this article), prospective deaf employees must rely on the kindness of a local community college to provide interpreters.
- Local hospitals and doctors refuse to provide interpreters for deaf patients, insisting instead on their children (!) or friends.
- Local television news is not captioned.
Unfortunately, as deaf-unfriendly as this sounds, it is not at all unusual. This is actually typical of what deaf and hard of hearing people have to deal with everyday, across the nation.

One of place at HSDC Hearing Speech Deafness Center in Seattle who is one of not unfriendly staff. They won’t help me to deal with A.D.A related with Hospital, Medical and any kind of discrimination that they are deaf employer at HSDC. I learn that they did to other deaf client who also discriminated by them because the client never recieved to lawsuit their doctor or E.R. Emgerency Room doesnt provided an ASL interpreter.
What’s shame on Arlene Belo, Angela. I think they are not consider honesty with their grants. They recieved an grant and never helped all of deaf client who show up and complained about Hosptial, medical clinic who refused to provided and failed to lawsuit in within 6 month. The deaf clients thought 7 years. it is too late. HSDC staff wont help the deaf client to help them to get lawyer or low income legal service.
I cannot beleive they mistreated to deaf client.

About vocational rehabilitation services did not helped me because the Vocational Rehab Service twisted me about being force to take wacko medicine. I dont have any problem with that and went to referred me to see pychristis and he told me I dont have serious. The reason why she closed my case because of she abused me about HSDC and Hosptial were not provided. She think I have a alot of problem with hearing and deaf people.It was not mine. I learn that HSDC did not honesty with deaf client. I have been collected with Deaf client became victims and did not supported enough by CSCDHH before the out of business and closed and transfered to HSDC, Hearing Speech Deafness Center.
The reason why I got really bad lousy counsleor and deaf people from HSDC worked with Deaf service as HSDC and vocational rehabilitation services are ruined their need to solve with A.D.A.
