Deaf? We Don't Want Your Blood.

Donating blood can be a way to earn money. However, when a deaf man who had been laid off and was in need of money went to donate blood, accompanied by his hearing father, he was turned away because he was deaf. The father describes the experience in full detail on the forum, including nearly being arrested after they became upset.

Sam the Bright,

It is really happened in Flordia in few years ago. I think it is not make a sense and discrimination if you need to donate to anyone who need blood desperated of their live saving for blood disease or some serious medical urgent to use receive from him to donate innocent people if they are not saved.

Sad situation! I tried to helped that guy’s deaf son about interpreter situation and encouraged him to talk with lawyer or low income to against that place which the nurse should not against his son who is deaf and determinate he is not hero and tried to save people’s life. On purpose for his living after lost a job for 5 years. I cannot understand the Blood Donation would not pass who hearing people to became deaf from him. It is silly and outraged story. it is really false label on his deaf son.

Deaf man is very hero to save people’s living might luck if it is their rare match blood.

It is really stupidest the way people think Deaf will spread a worsen germs. It’s huge misunderstood.

It has happened to me a few years ago. The nurse refused to write down when I requested her to write down. She wanted to speak and expected me to understand her. I had to be tough and be mad at her to make her write down. Suddenly, she send me away without giving me a chance to check veins double time to make sure if my veins is not good for blood donation. It hurts a lot. I went another donation center and people in there were better and did gave me chance to check my veins three times but I was disqualified because my veins were small or hidden.

This unforunate and tragic incident greatly reminds me of the classic CBS-TV’s “All in the Family” television sictom.

One of the episode, Louie, the young African American man, who was the next-door neighbor’s son, the Jeffersons.

Louie and Meathead characters went with the beloved bigot, Archie Bunker to the blood bank. Louie teased Archie that he got the blood from black people which turned him into one of them like walking jiggly. Archie’s eyes widened and freaked out.

What a laugh, but denying deaf person from donating healthy blood is pure discriminatory and illegal.
