Diabetes and Hearing Loss
Tuesday December 1, 2009
Many of us have family members with diabetes, because it unfortunately is so common. We should be telling our family members who have diabetes, to be sure to get their hearing checked. Diabetes has already been linked to hearing loss.

With respect this year I have read deafness linked to:
going blind
Autism
Poor mental health
Alzehimers
and now Diabetes..
I’m sure deafness will be held responsible for every other medical issue before long. Could it not be we are suspecptable to these things just the same as hearing and there is nothing more in it ? The way it comes out, looks like blame. If I fall over and break my leg, will that be put down to being deaf as well ?
My partner has diabetes, it is said to be down to insufficient insulin in her body, not due to her being deaf. Statistcally more hearing than deaf are diabetics, goddness me they are HEARING ! perhaps that;s the reason ?
Deafness is not responsible for the medical issues..it is the other way around. Various medical conditions cause hearing loss. For example, cerebral palsy. My understanding is that cerebral palsy affects the whole body, so it can affect the ears, too.
The leading culprit is high frutcose corn syrup (HFCS), a staple in many American foods.
Yes, people in general, consume too many processed foods – very accessible and no hard work to prepare foods.
Technology also play the role with our lives being less mobile.

I think the information is being misinterpreted above. The incidence of hearing loss in persons with diabetes is higher than in the general public when factors of age, gender, race, etc. are otherwise matched. According to Dr. Tim Hain, neurologist, whose website is http://www.dizziness-and-balance.com, pathological studies suggest that it is due to microangiopathic involvement of inner ear blood vessels and subsequent stria vascularis atrophy and hair cell loss (Fukushima et al, 2004). It has nothing to do with blaming deafness for diabetes. In fact, the diabetes causes hearing loss.
