Classic Deaf Movie Online - No Captions
An About.com reader just alerted me to something I did not know about. A comment was posted on an old post, "Most Requested Deaf Movie Not on DVD," about the old classic "And Your Name is Jonah." According to this comment, the movie, about a young deaf boy played by Jeffrey Bravin, was available on Hulu!
It IS available on Hulu - at Watch And Your Name is Jonah, BUT there are no captions. That is NOT Hulu's fault. When this movie aired back in 1979, there was no such thing as closed captioning. (It is also on Amazon.com streamed video, without captions).
But why can't Hulu caption it, you ask? It is not that simple. Hulu does not do the captioning themselves. Hulu takes captions produced by others, and re-formats the captions for broadcast on Hulu.
And it still doesn't seem to be available on DVD either.

I’m just as excited as you are when you twittered about this movie being shown at Hulu.com. It was indeed a shame it wasn’t captioned…would be so awesome had it been.
I shared it on the Facebook, and one friend (who is hearing) commented on it, and I quoted her: “omg i totally ignored the daycare kids to watch this and now my house is a reck BUT it is a wonderful movie i almost cried at the end two thumbs all the way up i love this movie!!!!”
I wonder if there is any way we can convince (or petition) the powers to be to have it produced on DVD, with subtitles? I know there are copyright issues involved, which is unfortunate, but there’s always hoping it could be a possibility!
I did searched for Movie on DVD called “My name is Johan” and also called ” Love is never Silent”in Amazon.com, they have the DVD but no capton available. I will be happy to support if they will put caption on both DVD.
