Just as she was about to finish up her studies at college for a human services degree, "New Jersey Mom"  on the forum lost more hearing in addition to already being hard of hearing. She had planned to get a job in social services and then study sign language because her goal was to work with deaf and hard of hearing people. At this time, her sign language skills are too limited for her to be able to work with deaf and hard of hearing people in social services.  Now that the additional hearing loss has made her deaf herself, "New Jersey Mom" feels lost and shaken.
