Just read Gallaudet Today magazine's profile of a deaf man originally from India, Madan Vasishta. Within the profile it said that "...India has a long tradition of educating deaf students using oral communication, and deaf people to this day cannot get a teaching certificate there." What? Deaf people in India can not teach deaf children? India is supposed to be a modernizing country! India should be ashamed of itself and should make it possible for qualified deaf people to teach.

In Austria also Deaf and Hard Of Hearing People cannot teach deaf children too, because the are not allowed it. According to the official order (not law!) teachers need all six senses. (There are a very few exceptions, but not on a regular way).
This article is very interesting. It would seem that India understands that the country, itself, is failing to provide a through education to the deaf comunity. How can a deaf person receive a detailed education based on oral communication. This article can be directly connected to the information about the lack of quality interepters in places like Iowa.
Dear friends please be corrected. India is most advanced country in this view. My daughter 13yr old with profound loss of hearing, speaking quite well, hearing with help of hearing aids/lip reading & observation taking education in one of the best school on india i,e. DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL, known asD.P.S. all across the globe with more than 150 branches in all international locations . that to on merit and performng very well. even C.B.S.E. Has exempted children for compulsory three language programme. children are doing fine in india and reaching top positions with disabilities.
It is better than canada atleast who have reservations towards immigration for families with disabled child.
