Experience

Melissa Karp, AuD, is a former writer for Verywell Family covering audiology. While she didn't set out to become an audiologist, she switched her major to audiology after taking a sign language class as an elective in college.

After earning her Doctor of Audiology degree from the University of Florida, Gainesville, she settled in North Carolina and worked in ENT settings for 10 years, early intervention for four years, and moved on to independently specializing in auditory processing disorders.

Education

Dr. Karp is board-certified in audiology. She's a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology, has a certificate of clinical competence in audiology, and has received specialty training in tinnitus retraining therapy.
