The Asian American culture is large and fast-growing, and the deaf Asian American community is no different. As the deaf Asian American community expands, organizations have been established, and some are taking leadership or otherwise high-profile positions in the deaf community.

Deaf Asian Organizations

A natural place to start learning about the deaf Asian American community would be the growing organization the National Asian Deaf Congress. On their site, a deaf Asian American can find organizational information, contact information for board officers, conference information, news releases, and membership information.

Deaf Asian College Students

Both the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and Gallaudet University have their own clubs for deaf Asian students: The Asian Pacific Association at Gallaudet University, and the Asian Deaf Club at NTID/RIT.

Deaf Asian People

A deaf Asian American, Ms. Amy Wong, was the 1998 - 2000 Miss Deaf America. Another well-known deaf Asian American is John Yeh, an entrepreneur who has been involved in multiple business ventures. In addition, Gallaudet University library has information on the following deaf Asian Americans, some of whom are living:

  • Bunker, Jesse Lafayette
  • Bunker, Louisa Emaline
