How To Make Friends in the DeafHOH Community

Looking to meet others in the deaf/hoh community, either online or offline? Here are some easy things you can do, and you will be on your way!

Here's How:

  1. Join a discussion list on a topic of interest Discusion lists
  2. Read and post to message boards or forums
  3. Attend meetings of local deaf organizations or join them
  4. Chat in deaf/hoh chat rooms
  5. Volunteer at a school for the deaf in your area
  6. Go to or join a deaf church in your area Religion
  7. If there is no deaf church, consider contacting a deaf missionary organization Deaf missionaries
  8. Take a sign language class Finding sign classes
  9. Take deaf studies classes at a local college
  10. Even if you are not a member of the sponsoring organization, consider attending a conference of a large deaf/hoh organization
  11. Join or attend meetings of local sign language clubs Sign language clubs
  12. Go to a silent or signing supper or asl dinner Signing suppers or try a deaf coffee chat
  13. Travel - there are tour groups and cruises just for deaf and hard of hearing people.
