with an adult volunteer, a friend, and role model, who is just like them. Our aim is to work to make the match successful, not for our statistics, but for the sake of the child.

Does the mentoring program work? It has been working successfully for hearing children for 97 years. Is there any reason why it would not work for deaf and hard of hearing children? I cannot think of a reason. Is there a need for deaf and hard of hearing children to have adult friends? Yes, there is. Will the program be a success? For the sake of the children and their families I pray that it does. Champions is not a pilot or experimental program, it is here to stay. Are there other programs similar to Champions anywhere? I have been looking. If you know of one, let me know.

As you can possibly guess, I have professional and personal reasons for being in the Champions program. True, I needed a job, but more importantly, the Champions program is my opportunity to give back to the community, to those deaf and hard of hearing kids who are just like me. (If you have any questions about the Champions program, feel free to contact me at Champions92@hotmail.com.
