Poem - Being Deaf

People like to stare at you,
Thinking you’re not normal.
What they don’t realize is
Is that you are normal.

You may not be able to hear
But you have your other senses,
Seeing, smelling, touching, tasting,
These senses grow stronger.

Your language is beautiful,
It is a gift from heaven.
You may not talk with your voice
But you speak with your hands,
What is more beautiful than that?

You may not listen with your ears
But you do with your eyes,
This makes you more attentive,
Don’t they realize?

You do not have sound
But you do have a heart,
I wish people would take time to realize
That life for you is hard.
