I'm still trying to find a way to take the pressure off. I don't do well with contact lens, so that's not really an option. Weighing the pros and cons, I was able to get full benefit of my implant, but I still can't understand the phone, radio or TV without close captioning. For me, it was a gamble that paid off. For some deaf people, it did not help them. I would say, what works for you, works for you. There's no right or wrong way. For me, being oral is what I'm used to. However, I do know that many deaf people don't always benefit from implants and they are more comfortable signing. Sometimes it's more of a comfort level issue, and what works for you. I'm just happy to be free of hearing aids, free of whistling hearing aids and uneven hearing. I have now learned to wear ear protectors when I do really noisy work to save what little hearing I have in my other ear. Remember, you may be hearing impaired, but you can still lose more hearing from noisy environments.
