Deaf/HOH Always Being Left Behind

Tuesday March 23, 2004
Every child deserves a decent education. No matter if you are hearing, deaf, or hard of hearing. Somehow, the deaf and harding of hearing always get left behind. The reason is there is never enough money to hire more speech teachers or interpreters. When one leaves there is never a replacement. Your child can spend a whole year without speech or a classroom interpreter.

The No Child Left Behind act was supposed to help children get a better education. So far, I don't see any changes, the special education students are still waiting for a better chance to learn with needed speech teacher and interperters.

I just began my first year as a deaf education teacher.I am hearing, and have seen this issue so many times. I plan to fight against the leaving behind and to bring the deaf children back to the front where they belong.

Yes! i agree this is so true i have a grandaughter who is hard of hearing and is in special ed for the hard of hearing and after a year she has shown progress but not as much as we think should be doing . I agree there is’nt enough resoruces to help these children we are always trying to find extra outside sorurces for her which there are in the commuity that offer programs and free speech therapy sessions but it finding them and finding a way for a tutor who is qaulifed and dedcaded to the your childs needs.
