My Cochlear Implant Story

Friday November 21, 2008
Am I lipreading or am I hearing? That is the question I was asking myself today, when I participated in a team meeting after we had been kicked out of a meeting room (others needed to use it) and the interpreter had left. There were four of us, and I managed pretty well with the help of my cochlear implant. Two of the others were pretty understandable but I struggled with the third. After eight months, my cochlear implant is certainly earning its keep. Here is the full story of how I got my cochlear implant, in two parts.

I agree with you that being an oralist can be helpful in the deaf community.

Meetings are always a tough one for me but I find that if I have everyone on one side of the table and me on the other, I have a much easier time managing the communication. Glad to see that the implant is helping you!

Thanks for sharing this story. You are getting good results with your CI quite fast! I have mine since March 2007 and I hear more every month, but I definitely need to lipread. Communication is much easier, though. My speech is also improved.
