You can buy almost anything in an online auction -- including deafness collectibles and other deaf-related items!

In recent visits to one auction site, I found:

  • A beautiful full-color poster of the sign alphabet
  • An inexpensive older model TDD
  • Telephone signallers
  • Postcards and other items from 19th century schools for the deaf
  • Sign language dictionaries
  • Novels featuring deaf characters
  • Baseball cards with deaf players
  • An engraving of a "deaf and dumb" asylum
  • An ancient hearing aid
  • Helen Keller mementos

Some high tech professionals have even "auctioned" themselves on the internet. The interpreter shortage is so severe that I would not be surprised to see interpreters auctioning their services on the internet.

What is the most unusual deaf-related item you have found in an internet auction? E-mail me and it will be added to the above list.
