If it is summertime, in the deaf and hard of hearing community it is conference and convention time! This is the time of year that many deaf professionals literally live out of their suitcases. It also presents a dilemma for deaf product and service companies, which tend to have limited budgets and must pick and choose which conference to send representatives to.
If you are fortunate enough to live in a city where one of these conferences is held, I encourage you to attend. Conferences are valuable for the networking and socialization opportunities afforded as well as the information provided. I have attended two conferences so far, a National Association of the Deaf conference and an International Conference on the Education of the Deaf conference, each time as a representative from a deaf services company.
