Priorities
As the national association for deaf people in the United States, the NAD is actively involved in representing deaf people's interests in several areas including:
- Captioning
- Education
- Interpreting (particularly certification of interpreters)
- Telecommunications
Programs and Activities
The NAD has several programs that benefit all deaf Americans:
- American Sign Language Teachers Association
- Captioned Media Program funded by the U.S. government, providing free loans of captioned media.
- Junior NAD
- Law Center
- Miss Deaf America
- Youth Leadership Camp for the next generation of deaf leaders
Public Relations
The NAD publishes the following:
- e-zine with news and alerts on Federal legislation affecting deaf and hard of hearing people.
- NADMag, a regular magazine
- NADezine, a more general e-zine
Information Center
In this section of the NAD website, visitors can find answers to commonly asked questions about hearing loss. A "top ten" list answers questions such as "What is the difference between deaf and hard of hearing?" Additional information is provided in the topic areas of ASL, legal rights, deaf culture & community, education & employment, mental health, parents, family, & friends, and technology.
