Many books have been written about deafness and hearing loss. About.com Deafness has reviewed a few of them. There are many good books out there; if you recommend a book I will try to get a copy and review it. Books are listed in alphabetical order.
1. Alone in the Mainstream
A guest wrote this book review about the experiences of deaf and hard of hearing children in mainstream programs, but I want to buy the book and read it myself someday.
2. Deaf Daughter, Hearing Father
A review of a family's experiences raising a young deaf daughter in the 1990s.3. I'll Scream Later
An autobiography by the deaf actress/producer Marlee Matlin.
4. Moments of Truth: Robert R. Davila
A biography of a Gallaudet University president, Dr. Robert Davila.5. Deaf Culture Our Way
A humorous little book about deafness, aimed at hearing people.
6. Odyssey of Hearing Loss
A book about the psychological aspects of hearing loss.
7. Picture Plus Dictionary
A review of a sign language dictionary, one that I have personally used and still own.
8. Deaf Heritage
Review of a classic book on deaf history. Other books have since been published, but this one is still a good source of information.
9. Silent Observer
One of the few children's books on deafness reviewed by About.com Deafness. ( I enjoy children's books and will gladly review more if you have any recommendations). Although it is a children's book, adults will find much about it to appreciate.
10. Deaf Like Me
This is one of the first books about deafness I ever read in my life. The story of the deaf child in this book could have been myself.
11. Sounds Like Home
A review of one of the few books about African American deaf people. A deaf woman describes her growing up experiences.
