Definition: A SODA is a Sibling of a Deaf Adult. Hearing children who grow up with deaf siblings have unique experiences. Some SODAs may wish to reach out to other SODAs to share their experiences.

In the past, SODAs usually attended schools separate from their deaf siblings. Today, a SODA may be able to attend a deaf program together with their deaf siblings, as more schools and programs for the deaf welcome hearing children.

SODAs are seeking recognition, as evidenced by the efforts of Greensoda Productions to develop a film, "SODA Stories," that will focus on how hearing siblings relate to their deaf siblings.

There is a small Yahoo group, "Sibling_of_Deaf" for SODAS to communicate with each other.

BabyHearing.org has advice and comments parents with both deaf and hearing children on its ParentTalk - Siblings of a Child with Hearing Loss page. The page also includes captioned videos.
