We need to get computers into the homes of all deaf citizens just like we strived to get the TTY into the homes. There is much deaf related information and news streaming off the computer, including "The Tactile Mind" where Trudy Suggs now does some creative writing about her special point of view.

We have many other writers who got their start writing for The Silent News. I am sure their talents will be used in other ways in the coming years and all because of the vision of Julius Wiggins.

I really missed Silent News so much and wanted to be subscriber again. It is essential material for my reading classes students to read and know about their own cultures.

I love read silent news very much i used since 1980 and im terrrible shocked and not understand why no more newspaper for deaf

***

Apparently, greed terminated Silent News publishing.

*** I am very angry and disgusted at Harriet and her daughter for not keeping informed to a deaf community and return their renewal fees. They sure ripped off our financial situation as we are not that rich like higher hearing people willing to let their little money down the drain!!

It is really terrible and very sad that Silent News are no longer in the business ... I do enjoy reading it and always look forward to it in my mailbox.

silent news is a newspaper very dear to the deaf community and should be restarted as soon as possible. we need to be filled in on everything we've missed out on.

First of all, I think that the allusion to the New York Times is inaccurate. The Times is a quality newspaper with quality writing. The Silent News was never that. I could never enjoy TSN the way I would enjoy the Times.

Instead of getting nowhere with all this complaining, we should view this as an opporunity to turn out a newspaper with quality writing and reporting. I did not subscribe to TSN for this very reason: the writing was, on the most part, amateurish. Opinions were often offered without support, and there were too many how-to and opinion articles.

It was nice to have a deaf newspaper, but never did I find it, except for a few exceptions, enjoyable nor educational -- or even entertaining -- to read. There are high school papers that put out better quality than TSN did. I know that this is like speaking ill of the dead, but it's true.

So now, the only question is, who will step up to the plate and make an attempt to evolve beyond TSN and make an newspaper we can be proud of, not one that hearing people would read and say, "THIS is the best that the entire deaf community can do?"

It really is disappointing to exploit from innocent victims with renewal membership fees.

It is appalling to give us no warning to have discontinued Silent News.

It hurts more because it is caused by the deaf vendor for the deaf consumers.

We are saddened that Julius's legacy besmirched with unpleasant scandals by his benefactors.

We the deaf community are clannish and we are bonding to protect our deaf vendors as long as they are highly reputable.

It will take time to get our confidence back in the new deaf vendors again. The new deaf vendors will have a hard time to convince us of their intregity. Silent News was long lasting publication.

To the new deaf vendors, do not be despair, pursue your high goals.
