When sign language is new and exciting because people are first learning it, they may develop a "favorite sign." Some people favor a particular sign because of its coolness, or its movement, or its purpose.

About.com visitors were asked what their favorite sign was in the blog post, "Do You Have a Favorite Sign?" Several people responded, citing their favorite signs and reasons for these signs being their favorites.

"Love the 'What's up' greeting sign and 'Don't know' sign, both of which I use with regularity because I love running into people I can be comfortable enough to use a 'slang' sign with."
- Paul

"My favorite sign is 'bright,' especially when it is done in song. The movement is so expansive and really depicts that the area is filled with brightness."
- Franca

"I love the sign for 'remember.' I use it a lot with my daughter. She loves it."
- Faith

"I’ve just passed level 2 and my absolute favorite signs are 'fantastic' and 'innocent.' My tutor laughs every time I sign it as I have a smirk on my face."
- Kirsty

Moving Beyond Favorite Signs

Of course, to communicate in sign language, you need to know more than just a handful of signs. Continue your sign language education through classes, books, online video, or DVDs.
